Mared Emlyn will perform in the
Festival Concert on Tuesday Aprill 22, and will be leading a
composing workshop with Pwyll ap Siôn on Saturday April 26.
Originally
from Llangernyw, Mared now lives in Eglwys Bach, in the Conwy Valley.
In
2009 she graduated with BMus First Class Honours at Bangor
University, Wales and was awarded a KESS scholarship funded by the
European Union in association with Gwynn Publishing Company, to
further her studies. She has recently successfully completed her
doctorate in performance on the harp and composition. She studied
composition with Dr Pwyll ap Siôn and harp with Elinor Bennett, with
additional lessons from Ursula Holliger in Basel, and Judy Loman in
Toronto.
Mared
performs in concerts as a soloist and has also performed Danses
Sacrée et Profane by Debussy and Concerto for Harp by
Ginastera as a soloist with the Bangor University Symphony Orchestra.
She
won the Urdd’s Chief Composition medal in 2011 for her work Perlau
yn y Glaw for solo harp. As well as the comission for the harp
festival, she was also comissioned to compose a work for violin for
piano to be performed by Madeleine Mitchell for this year’s Bangor
New Music Festival.
